Ingredients
  

Dough Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 cups salt
  • 1 teaspoon vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • Food coloring (various colors)

  • Wax paper or plastic wrap for storage

Preparation

  • In a mixing bowl, mix together the flour, salt, and cornstarch until evenly combined.
  • In a saucepan, combine the water and vegetable oil. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients while stirring to prevent lumps from forming.
  • Place the saucepan over medium heat and continuously stir the mixture as it heats up; it will thicken and start pulling away from the sides of the pan.
  • Once thickened, remove from heat, divide into smaller portions, and knead a few drops of food coloring into each piece.
  • Allow the dough to cool completely before letting children play with it.
  • Once cooled, wrap in wax paper or plastic wrap to keep the dough fresh.

Notes

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for several weeks. If it starts to dry out, you can add a few drops of water and knead to revive it.
