Ingredients

For the Chocolate Cake:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup whole milk room temperature
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup hot water or brewed coffee enhances chocolate flavor

For the Pink Frosting:

  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 3 tablespoons heavy cream or milk
  • Pink food coloring

For the Green Lettering:

  • ½ cup buttercream frosting from above
  • Green food coloring
  • Piping bag with small round tip

Instructions

  • 1️⃣ Prepare the Chocolate Cake
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, sugar, and salt.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract.
  • Gradually combine the wet and dry ingredients, mixing until smooth.
  • Stir in hot water or coffee, mixing just until combined. The batter will be thin – this is normal!
  • Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Let the cake cool completely before frosting.
  • 2️⃣ Make the Pink Frosting
  • In a mixing bowl, beat the butter until light and fluffy.
  • Gradually add powdered sugar, mixing well after each addition.
  • Stir in vanilla extract and heavy cream, beating until smooth.
  • Add pink food coloring, a few drops at a time, until you achieve the signature pink color.
  • 3️⃣ Assemble & Decorate
  • Once the cake is completely cool, spread the pink frosting evenly using a spatula.
  • To create the rustic homemade look, roughly spread the frosting, avoiding a perfect finish.
  • In a small bowl, mix the reserved frosting with green food coloring for the lettering.
  • Using a piping bag with a small round tip, pipe "Happee Birthdae Harry" in uneven, messy cursive.
  • Optional: Add green snake details by piping small swirls or shaping fondant snakes.

Notes

  • For a taller cake, double the recipe and make two layers!
  • No piping bag? Use a ziplock bag with a tiny hole cut in the corner.
  • For extra detail, add chocolate ganache drips for a richer texture.
  • Storage: Store in an airtight container at room temperature for 2 days, or refrigerate for up to 5 days.
