Ingredients

  • 1 cup 226g unsalted butter, softened – The rich base for soft, flavorful cookies.
  • 1 cup 200g granulated sugar – Adds sweetness and helps with structure.
  • 1 large egg – Binds everything together for a smooth dough.
  • 1 ½ tsp vanilla extract – For that warm classic cookie flavor.
  • 2 ½ cups 315g all-purpose flour – The foundation of your dough.
  • 1 tsp baking powder – Helps the cookies rise just the right amount.
  • ¼ tsp salt – Enhances the flavors.
  • Gel food coloring various colors – The magic ingredient for vibrant hues!

Instructions

  • Step 1: Make the Cookie Dough
  • In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Mix in the egg and vanilla extract until smooth.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until a dough forms.

Step 2: Color the Dough

  • Divide the dough into sections based on how many colors you want.
  • Add a few drops of gel food coloring to each section and knead until fully incorporated.
  • Adjust the color intensity as needed by adding more food coloring.

Step 3: Chill and Shape

  • Wrap each colored dough ball in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  • Roll out the dough and cut into shapes or roll into balls for drop cookies.

Step 4: Bake to Perfection

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Place cookies on the sheet and bake for 8-10 minutes, or until edges are set.
  • Let them cool on a wire rack before serving.

Notes

  • Use gel food coloring for vibrant colors without altering dough consistency.
  • If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour, one tablespoon at a time.
  • For a marbled effect, gently knead two or more colors together before rolling out.
  • Chill the dough to make handling easier and keep colors from blending.
