For the Cake:
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 2 ½ tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 ¾ cups granulated sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 1 tbsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup whole milk
For the Bluey Decoration:
- 3 cups buttercream frosting (divided into blue, white, dark blue, and black)
- Blue food coloring
- Black and white fondant (for eyes, nose, and mouth)
- Piping bags and round tips
- Edible shimmer dust (optional)
Instructions
1️⃣ Bake the Cake
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line two 8-inch round cake pans.
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
- In another bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, then mix in vanilla extract.
- Alternate adding the dry ingredients and milk, mixing until the batter is smooth.
- Divide the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
2️⃣ Prepare the Frosting & Decorations
- Divide the buttercream into different bowls: light blue for the main frosting, dark blue for details, white for accents, and black for facial features.
- Use blue food coloring to achieve the right Bluey shade. Mix well.
3️⃣ Assemble & Frost the Cake
- Place one cake layer on a cake stand. Spread a layer of buttercream and stack the second cake on top.
- Cover the entire cake with a smooth layer of light blue buttercream using an offset spatula.
- Chill for 30 minutes to set the frosting.
4️⃣ Create Bluey’s Face
- Use dark blue buttercream to add Bluey’s markings (ears, forehead, and outer eyes).
- Use white buttercream to pipe the eyes and mouth area.
- Cut fondant shapes for the eyes, nose, and mouth. Place them carefully to complete Bluey’s face.
- Add black details with buttercream to enhance expressions.
5️⃣ Final Touches & Presentation
- Smooth out any imperfections and add edible shimmer dust for extra fun!
- Display on a cake stand and get ready for the big celebration! 🎉

- Cake Base Options: You can swap vanilla for chocolate or funfetti cake.
