Description

These vibrant and fun cookies are perfect for birthdays, holidays, or any occasion where you want to brighten up your dessert table. With a soft texture and bold colors, they are not only delicious but also visually stunning. Use natural or artificial food coloring to create a variety of designs, from tie-dye to rainbow swirls.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ¾ cups (345g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup (226g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 ½ cups (300g) granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • Gel food coloring (red, blue, yellow, green, etc.)
  • Optional: Natural color alternatives (beet juice, turmeric, spirulina powder)
  • Sprinkles for decoration (optional)

Instructions

  • In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  • In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
  • Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until well combined.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients, mixing until a smooth dough forms.
  • Divide the dough into portions, depending on the number of colors you want to use.
  • Add a small amount of food coloring to each portion and knead until the color is evenly distributed.
  • For a marbled or tie-dye effect, gently roll different colored doughs together without overmixing.
  • Shape the dough into balls or roll it out and use cookie cutters for fun shapes.
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Place cookies on the baking sheet, leaving space between them. If desired, decorate with sprinkles.
  • Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
  • Let cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • For the best colors, use gel food coloring instead of liquid food dye.
  • Chill the dough for 15-30 minutes before baking to prevent colors from bleeding.
  • Store cookies in an airtight container to maintain their vibrant colors and freshness.
